Peter the Great St. Petersburg Polytechnic University hosted a working meeting with representatives of one of the university’s key partners, Xi’an Technological University (XATU, China). The delegation arrived at Polytechnic University to strengthen scientific and educational cooperation within the framework of the joint Polytechnic Institute.
The meeting took place at the Institute of Machinery, Materials and Transport (IMM&T), which is the main driver of partnership programs between our universities. The Chinese delegation included a coordinator and a teacher of the joint program, as well as a group of students.

Anatoly Popovich, Director of IMM&T, welcomed the guests and stressed the importance of pedagogical and scientific cooperation between our universities. In his speech, he noted: It is a great honor for us to welcome colleagues and students from Xi’an University of Technology again. Our partnership is not just a formal agreement. It is a living organism that brings real results every year: joint research, publications and, most importantly, the training of highly qualified engineers for the industry of Russia and China. We are pleased to see that the geography and depth of our cooperation are constantly expanding.
Professor Gao Peihu, head of the joint program in Materials Science, delivered a response. He thanked the leadership of SPbPU for the warm welcome and the high standard of organization of the educational process for the Chinese students. We highly appreciate the contribution of SPbPU faculty to the development of our joint institute. Their lectures, delivered in Xi’an every semester, are the foundation on which this collaboration is built. Today, we see how our students gain access to cutting-edge research at the Polytechnic, and this meets our common strategic goals, said Professor Gao.

Pavel Kovalev, Deputy Director for Educational Activities at IMM&T, presented the guests with a detailed overview of the institute, highlighting key scientific areas, the material and technical base of laboratories and promising projects in which Chinese students can participate.
The central event of the visit was the discussion on the three-month internship for 15 Chinese students, the program of which was developed jointly with the SPbPU Center for International Internships, established as part of the Priority 2030 program. This internship represents an important new stage in the development of cooperation between Polytechnic University and Xi’an Technological University. To fully immerse themselves in the scientific environment of the university, students will conduct research under the guidance of IMM&T’s leading researchers — Anton Naumov, Maxim Maksimov, Maxim Zamozdra and Anton Sotov, working on topics relevant to their scientific interests. In addition to research, a rich educational program has been prepared for students, including a basic Russian language course, participation in the international conference «Robots, Additive and Welding — RAW 2025», as well as training at the SPbPU Winter School under the programs «New Materials and Additive Technologies» and «Materials for Chemical Energy Sources».
This visit became just another important step in the development of the strategic partnership between SPbPU and Xi’an Technological University, strengthening academic and scientific ties between the two leading technical universities in Russia and China.
