On the evening of August 7, the Fourth BUCEA International Summer School came to a successful close. International Development Research Institute (School of International Education), Academic Studies Office, staff and all participants of the Summer School attended the closing ceremony hosted by Mr. Huang Xing from International Development Research Institute (School of International Education).

Firstly, student representatives of different classes presented reports on results of their respective group. Domestic and foreign students from different classes shared achievements of their discussions and studies concerning the topics of international engineering education under the background of the Belt and Road Initiative, energy conservation, emission reduction and urban ecologic civilization, pluralism in architectural culture and transnational communication, urban design and management under regular prevention and control of the pandemic, and youth’s support in the construction of the international exchange center of Beijing, etc. Besides knowledge exchange, the students also talked about teachers, lectures and class discussions that left them impressive. They also conveyed their thoughts and harvests from this International Summer School. Both domestic and foreign teachers and students acquired knowledge, enriched experience, expanded vision, and reaped sincere friendship during this summer.

Then the students also staged art performance of different kinds, including poem reading of Follow Your Own Course with music, song Open , and reading of ancient Chinese poem of Ode to the Vast Divine Land , etc.
The week-long online lectures were designed based on the currently popular and hot academic topics and topics that students are interested in, including leading-edge topics of design and evaluation system of green architecture, Invisible environmental problems caused by the pandemic, robot and architectural industrialization, evaluation system of new types of earthquake, as well as professional fields such as the application of remote sensing in civil engineering, study of concrete durability and technological solutions after a major earthquake, etc. Students learned a lot, and many of them asked for the lecturers’ contact after the course for continued communication and discussion in the future.

Domestic and Foreign Experts Gave Lectures
Prof. Jiang Jie, Executive Deanr of International Development Research Institute (School of International Education), concluded in her speech that this online International Summer School had many new characteristics: its scale was the largest since its commencement; it focused more on popular academic and leading-edge topics; the online lectures enhanced interaction between lecturers and students and encouraged participation; and the group discussions effectively improved the capabilities of independent thinking and study and language competence of the students. Prof. Jiang Jie highly appreciated the excellent performance of the students in this Summer School, and praised them for their efforts and teamwork. She also expressed gratitude to all the staff and volunteers for their devotion to the Summer School. She hoped that domestic and foreign students can, based on the results from the Summer School, learn from each other and continue to enhance communication and exchange so that the International Summer School can become the platform for students to broaden international vision and improve cross-cultural communication.
